The product
Learning someone’s language is one of the most genuine ways to connect with them. twowords lets you and a language buddy swap one word a day, with a picture and an example sentence, and slowly build a vocabulary that’s yours.

The idea
Learning with someone is different.
You have stakes. You have context. You have someone who’ll laugh when you get it wrong and remember when you finally get it right. I wanted to make that daily, low-pressure exchange as easy as sending a message.
A small daily exchange builds a shared vocabulary over time.
How it works
A dictionary only the two of you could write.
- 1
Pair up
A friend, a partner, anyone learning your language while you learn theirs.
- 2
Send one word a day
A translation, a photo for context, an example sentence if you’re feeling generous.
- 3
Build it together
Inside jokes, travel memories, the kind of specificity no app can generate for you.
Keeping the exchange to one word a day was deliberate. I resisted adding features that would make it feel like another vocabulary drill.
SendA word, a photo, a sentence from your day.
CollectYour shared dictionary grows one day at a time.
What’s next
Practise the words together.
The MVP is live. Next, I’m building lightweight games on top of the shared vocabulary: low-stakes ways to practise the words you’ve collected together, so it keeps feeling like a conversation, not a classroom.
Reflection
twowords started as something I wanted for myself. Building it end to end, from Figma to a live product, kept every decision honest: if a feature didn’t make the daily exchange easier, it didn’t ship.
